Because of the field trip I was able to go on yesterday, today was my first official day of school. Unfortunately, my teacher was sick, so I still haven't met all of my classes officially. At the beginning of the day I had my tour with one of the head ladies, and signed an "agreement." After, I went with a couple other teachers. One third grade classroom to help them with their field trip to the public library. (The library at the school is very small.) We walked all the way there (only took a few minutes) and the girls were able to pick out whatever books they wanted. They really seemed to enjoy it. (Pictures of the Library below).
After that, I got to help another teacher with some 5th grade girls (some that I will work with and others that I won't). They wanted to ask so many questions, and know so much about me. It was so cute... I didn't know what to tell them at first, but they weren't shy to ask questions. Their favorite was "Do you have a boyfriend?" They are way too young to be thinking about those things, but they sure liked to hear about mine (his occupation, if I worry about it because of his occupation, how he's strong, if he's handsome [duh I think he's handsome!]). I told some of the girls that I would bring my scrapbook in (they like to scrapbook as well) and show them pictures when we have time. They are the cutest!
It is amazing how well so many of them speak English. Some teachers only communicate to them in English, and the students don't even know that the teachers can speak Spanish as well. It forces them to practice the language because the students would rather speak in Spanish (obviously).
Tomorrow the 3 of us leave for Paris, France after school, so please pray for safe travels there and back (we will return to Barcelona on Sunday) and for safety while we are there. Thanks for the prayers already! I am missing my family, but already loving the experiences I am having here!
